The humans of Valhalla and their homestead – Who? Where? Why?
On June 15, 2018 by Vlad2 min readHi there! Welcome to our blog, we are Greti & Vlad. We like to think of ourselves as the only two humans who are “Lost in the Valhalla Homestead“. But in all honesty, we’re just a normal couple that was lucky enough to be able to buy a piece of land to call their own.
I’m not going to dive too deep into our biography, I’ll let you follow along in our story and make your own opinion about our personality, but there are a few basic details that I want to get out of the way.
I am 27 years old, Greti is 25. We’re living in Romania. I was born and raised in Cluj-Napoca, Greti was born near Campulung Moldovenesc and moved here, in Cluj, when she started going to college. We met each other in 2016 and now, two years later, we’re making the big move: trading the city life for the country-side life.
At the beginning of 2018, we bought a property in Vechea – a small rural village, 20 kilometres away from Cluj-Napoca (you can see the exact location here). I’ll do a whole video about what I mean by “rural” and other particularities of living in Romania.
Our property is 3,400 square meters in total and on it, we have a small old house, a barn, an orchard and the rest is just grassland. We do have a small mortgage on it, but we should be able to pay that off in a few years.
A week after we got the house, we found Ragnar, our cute, smart, fluffy companion who watches over Valhalla now and diligently barks at strangers passing by. We’re planning on getting another dog – Freja and a cat – Loki, sometime in the nearby future.
Greti and I started this homestead journey with a few goals in mind. Although some of our plans might not become reality, our main focus will be to create a homestead, live a healthy life and enjoy our life as much as we can.
We’re looking forward to starting our own garden, maybe getting some chickens, learning how to preserve fruits and vegetables for the winter months and doing a lot of DIY projects around the house.
Until then, we first have to renovate our new old house to a state where we’re comfortable living there until we can build our own. We’ll do our best to document as much as we can along the way.
If you want to stay up to date with our story I’ll leave you a few links below to our social media profiles.
Until next time, may the Gods smile upon you!
