Our first big snow on the homestead
On December 21, 2018 by VladDecember brought about very cold days here at the Valhalla homestead. With our fire stove running overtime, our firewood supplies were diminishing quite fast. So the plan for last Saturday was to split more firewood. But when we woke up on Saturday morning, everything was covered in a thick layer of snow. So much snow!

10 moving hacks to make your life easier
On November 26, 2018 by VladThis post is long overdue. We moved to our new home back in July, but since renovations at our new house are still in progress, we still have boxes laying around. Every week or so we have to move our cardboard boxes from one room to the other and if it weren’t for these 10

Chainsaws, firewood and stoves
On October 21, 2018 by VladThe last few warm days of autumn have passed and cold weather is now setting in. The forecast predicts negative temperatures starting tomorrow night and we already had a few morning with most of our yard covered in hoarfrost. It’s time to get firewood, split the wood, stack it and keep it handy for our

Our first apple harvest
On September 29, 2018 by VladThe last few weeks have been crazy busy. We spent our weekends working in the kitchen and juggled with shopping and doctor appointments throughout the rest of the week. Autumn came in full force here at Vechea and hit us with a few nights of 1°C temperatures, light rain and winds. That was also our

We got the water connected to our new house
On July 23, 2018 by VladThis past Friday we passed another deadline that was looming over our heads. We finally managed to get the water connected to our old house, getting us one step closer to finishing our house renovations.
It’s hard to put into words and explain just how happy we are to have running water, hot showers and to be able to flush the toilet. But to put it into perspective, we spend most of our Friday afternoon just flushing the water and watching it go down the drain.

Deadline frenzy on our house renovation
On July 3, 2018 by VladThe past few weeks were hectic here at the Valhalla Homestead. Our lease was only until the 29th of June so we needed to wrap up the house renovation as quickly as possible and move all our stuff from the old apartment we used to rent. Hence the reason why I didn’t have the time to update you all on our progress.
Although we carefully planned our house renovation and moving schedules there were a few unexpected delays. We ended up working long hours and stripped of any free time. So we ended up spending our two weeks of “vacation” among piles of rubble, dust and concrete.

Out with the old – Cleaning the old house
On June 20, 2018 by VladWhen we first got here at Vechea we already knew that there was a lot of work ahead of us. The old house is structurally sound as far as we know. But it was far away from what we would consider nice and comfortable. One of the first things we had to tackle was getting rid of the old stuff that was left behind.
The old house was built 50 years ago and I bet that the furniture inside is just as old. The floors were covered with old dirty rugs that smelled like mildew. Also, nobody lived inside the house for the past 18 years so the air inside smelled bad and stale.

Where Is The Valhalla Homestead?
On June 17, 2018 by VladToday I want to give you more details about where we are, here at the Valhalla Homestead. So if you’re just getting to know us and you want to figure out what’s our story setting, read on.
As I told you before, Greti and I are the proud owners of a beautiful countryside property we purchased at the beginning of 2018. After we figured out that we were not excited at all for the hustle and bustle of the city life and that what we really wanted was a better, more peaceful and healthier lifestyle we decided to buy a land nearby Cluj. That’s how we got to Vechea and started our homestead adventure.

The humans of Valhalla and their homestead – Who? Where? Why?
On June 15, 2018 by VladHi there! Welcome to our blog, we are Greti & Vlad. We like to think of ourselves as the only two humans who are “Lost in the Valhalla Homestead“. But in all honesty, we’re just a normal couple that was lucky enough to be able to buy a piece of land to call their own.
I’m not going to dive too deep into our biography, I’ll let you follow along in our story and make your own opinion about our personality, but there are a few basic details that I want to get out of the way.
